Problem

Four Cisco Nexus 7710 distribution switches were due for replacement under Purdue's campus network lifecycle upgrade.

Approach

  • Helped prepare each of the four replacements.
  • Verified every fiber connection on the switch before each swap.
  • Shut down, swapped, and reconnected the hardware with the network team.
  • Re-verified all fiber, tested connectivity, and documented the removal and replacement after each swap.

Result

  • All four Nexus 7710s replaced with Cisco Catalyst 9407s.
  • Every fiber connection verified before and after each cutover.
